Excuses are the reasons we give for not getting done what we want to get done. It is the reasons we give why we supposedly cannot attend a fitness class or train at home. It is the reason why we fail at our fitness goals.

Most commonly used fitness excuses

  • I work late
  • I work early
  • I have work deadlines to meet
  • I do not have time
  • I am too tired
  • My cat died
  • My dog is sick
  • I am divorced
  • My children’s extramural activities takes up all my time
  • I have responsibilities
  • I have hobbies
  • I have Church
  • I have to go to the grocery store
  • I have to clean the house
  • I have to work on the car

Okay, you get my point? I mean seriously, people, this is just life. This will never stop. You will never stop having things to do. Ever. You won’t wake up one day and realize you’ve accomplished everything you need to do in life and now you just have an open calendar from here on out.

So face it. Things will always come up. You will always have issues, challenges, problems, good times, bad times, injuries, drama. You name it and it’s going to happen. The people who are successful in life are the ones who don’t let all these excuses stop them. The ones who find a way.

There is a solution for every excuse

For every excuse you can come up with, there is a solution. The thing is, if you really want to do something, there is always a way. If you really do not want to do something, there will always be an excuse and a reason why you cannot do something.

“But I really do not have time!” Sure you have. We all get exactly the same amount of hours every day. YOU get to choose how you spend your time. YOU decide what is important and what must be done. YOU set the priorities. If you do not have time, it is YOU who are not prioritizing exercise and putting everything else as a higher priority.
“My cat died” That is really sad. So how will not exercising bring your cat back to life? Exercise releases chemicals called endorphines which can actually make you feel better. Regular physical activity can also increase your dopamine and serotonin levels to boost your happy hormones. Lying on the bed while eating potato chips and crying your heart out while looking at pictures of your dearly departed cat will only make you feel worse.

If you really want it, you will do it. In the end it is all about what is important to you. You will always find a way to do things you value. Similarly, you will always find a way out of things you do not value. Do you value yourself enough? If you do, you will do what needs to be done to look after yourself first. You will not be able to do all those other things that keep you so busy if you do not look after yourself first. So think about your excuses…
